The team ran well for the first part of the race makng clean pit stops and moving up the order until a series of small problems occurred that cost the team valuable time in the pits. The No. 18 XM Satellite Radio VICI Racing entry driven by Terry Borcheller, Uwe Alzen, Gastón Mazzacane, Robert Renauer and Nicky Pastorelli also had a strong showing until an accident just over 8 hours into the race ended their day. The car suffered heavy damage but stood up well and driver Gastón Mazzacane was unhurt. “A very disappointing end to the race,” says VICI Racing Team President Ron C. Meixner, “But we are very relieved that Gastón was ok. We put a lot of effort into this week and the wholehearted support of XM Satellite Radio has been instrumental in the project taking shape. I have been really delighted with the way we have progressed, the package is very promising, the car is improving quickly, the Porsche engine is superb, and the team and crew have showed resolution and desire. That’s motor racing unfortunately, but we will bounce straight back from this result.”
FABCAR chassis #001, the first Daytona Prototype to ever win a Grand-Am race overall, was on display at the event in the Fanzone just before the entrance into the paddock.
